We are delighted to announce that the recent amendments to the Citizenship Law have been officially released today. These revisions, as previously outlined in our communications, bring about substantial changes to the citizenship application procedures.
Of particular significance is Article 15, which clarifies the method for calculating legal residence periods under the law. According to the article, the time elapsed since the request for a temporary residence permit will be considered for this purpose. However, there has been some ambiguity surrounding what constitutes the actual "request" for a temporary residence permit, especially in the context of obtaining a golden visa for citizenship purposes.
As discussed in our earlier communication, various interpretations have been proposed, including the date of online submission, payment of the online application, biometrics submission, or other significant milestones. With the legislative focus on addressing immigration processing backlogs, it is likely that the date of online submission or payment will be deemed the pivotal moment for residency calculations.
While the law is now in effect, the detailed regulations are expected to be finalized within the next 90 days. Once these regulations are enacted, we anticipate obtaining a definitive answer regarding the timing of the "request" for a golden visa concerning citizenship acquisition.
Rest assured, the team at IAS remains fully committed to providing comprehensive support and guidance throughout this evolving process. We pledge to keep you informed of any further developments as they arise.
